Synopsis: The Manual is about Sonny, an eight year old boy who is sent away from home as his father believes he has characteristics that could lead to homosexuality. After twenty four years of treatment and psychiatric institutions, Sonny returns home for a funeral, and attempts to save his seven year old niece from experiencing a similar fate.

Writer/Director - Sarah Spillane
Sarah has written and directed five short films that have screened at festivals in Australia and the United Kingdom. In 1998 at the age of 22, Sarah's first short film 'The Millennium Men' won the BBC film award for best short script. Now 30, Sarah?s latest short film ?The Manual? is testament to her growing profile as a unique visionary Director. For the last five years Sarah has been working in the Indigenous Community of Redfern developing experimental films and documentaries. In 2005 Sarah's first feature film script 'Around The Block' received the Arrilla Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay. Sarah hopes to shoot 'Around The Block' in 2010.
