Synopsis: Shorter version of Women Behind the Camera. This global documentary explores the lives of camerawomen in Hollywood and Bollywood as well as Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Mexico, Russia, Senegal and other countries in a way never seen before.

Biographies

Cinematographers: Denise Bailie, Michelle Crenshaw, Kristin Glover, Mary Gonzales, Mairi Gunn, Jendra Jarnagin, Stephanie Martin, Hilda Mercado, Jakobine Motz, Yoshiko Osawa, Karin Pelloni, Eva Testor and others

Writer/Director/Producer of "Women Behind the Camera" is the winner of the Tribute Award "For achievements in independent cinema" from the 2008 San Francisco Women's Film Festival. Her films, videos and holograms include "END OF THE ART WORLD," starring Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg; "JUST BETWEEN ME & GOD," filmmed on the Mississippi River; and "EXILE", filmed in Czechoslovakia before hte fall of the Iron Curtain and screened nationally on PBS. She studied film history at Yale and received an MFA in Film/Video from Cal Arts. She is Professor of screenwriting at California State University, Northridge. Vanessa H. Smith, Executive Producer and Associate Producer: After graduation from Stanford University, Vanessa Smith lived and worked in India, Nepal, London, New York and Los Angeles. She has worked on productions for PBS, BBC, Encore, and Columbia Pictures, and served as Historical COnsultant and Location Manager for "In Search of Kundun with Martin Socrsese." Vanessa is the recipient of an Amnesty International Award for her production of a program on women in Nepal for the BBC. A BBC Correspondent documentary she produced about a rape victim unfairly imprisoned for having an abortion, helped an international effort to free the fourteen year old subject of the film from prison. The film was instrumental in helping to change Nepalese law, and won the Amnestly International Media Award for television news.

A founding member of Behind the Lens: An Association of Professional Camerawomen, and former National Chair of the International Cinematographers GUild's Diversity Committee, Kristin Glover has worked in Hollywood as Camera Operator on such films as "Star Trek VI, The Undiscovered COuntry" and "The Rocketeer." She has also served as Director of Photography/Camera Operator on documentaries such as "The LEgacy of the Hollywood Blacklist," and Unit Directed, interviewed and shot our interviews with Steadicam Operator Liz Ziegler and Distor/DP Haskell Wexler, ASC.
